Overview

Fragmen is reimagining employee attendance for the age of remote and asynchronous work. Unlike traditional systems that tether employees to specific "9-to-5" windows, Fragmen empowers employees to work when they are most productive.

The core philosophy is simple: Work when you want, provided you meet your daily duration goal. This is perfect for remote teams where work-life balance and deep-work sessions are prioritized over rigid scheduling.

Core Features

The proposed system focuses on flexibility and cumulative tracking:

  1. Multi-Session Check-In/Out — Employees can start and stop their work multiple times throughout the day (e.g., 2 hours in the morning, 4 hours in the afternoon, 2 hours at night).
  2. Daily Duration Tracking — Instead of "late" or "early," the system tracks progress toward a target daily duration (e.g., 8 hours).
  3. Async-First Dashboard — Managers see cumulative hours worked for the day rather than just a "presence" status, providing better insight into team capacity.
  4. Flexible Scheduling — No fixed start or end times. Employees work according to their preferences and time zones.
  5. Location Independence — Designed for remote work with optional verification that focuses on meaningful progress rather than physical presence.

Proposed Workflow

  1. Start Session — Employee clicks "Check-In" whenever they start a task.
  2. Pause/Stop Session — Employee clicks "Check-Out" for breaks, errands, or ending their session.
  3. Cumulative Progress — The system aggregates all sessions for the day into a total "Hours Worked" counter.
  4. Goal Reached — Notifications or visual indicators show when the employee has met their daily commitment.

Planned Scenarios

User Type Action Expected Result
Employee Checks in at 09:00, Out at 11:00 Session 1: 2 hours recorded. Total: 2/8 hours.
Employee Checks in at 14:00, Out at 18:00 Session 2: 4 hours recorded. Total: 6/8 hours.
Employee Checks in at 20:00, Out at 22:00 Session 3: 2 hours recorded. Total: 8/8 hours. Goal met.
Manager Views Team View Sees total hours each member has contributed today, regardless of their specific schedule.

Fragmen eliminates the friction of rigid time-tracking, making attendance a supportive tool for async productivity.
